return to publications  Once upon a time I wrote for, edited, and produced my own fanzines. It was a wonderful learning experience. Because I was well acquainted with established characters from various TV shows, I could concentrate on the mechanics of honing a good story, researching facts, and hopefully entertaining an audience.
Eventually, the lure of writing my own characters outweighed my desire to write in someone else's universe. I walked away from fandom with many fond memories, good friends, an ability to construct a story, and the editorial experience to help others do the same thing. Fanfic is a different animal these days. The legalities of online publication/distribution are enough to make me uncomfortable enough to pull from this page the covers and details of the fanzines I published low those many years ago.
